Comrades:
The New Jersey Department of Military & Veterans Affairs will be bringing its “Veterans Outreach Campaign” to the Bridgewater Commons Mall on the dates of September 25th & 26th, 2016. To kick-off this campaign we will be conducting a State of New Jersey “Medal Ceremony” on Tuesday, September 25th at 11:00a.m., in the Mall’s Center Court.
To receive our State’s prestigious award (The Distinguished Service Medal) along with several other Medals we award, veterans applying must meet certain criteria including being honorably discharged, must have served in a combat theater of operations, and must have been a resident of the state of NJ upon entry into active service, or a resident of our state for at least 20 years (criteria is listed on attached application).
So I’m asking your help in getting the word out to those Legionnaires or any veterans you know that would be interested in receiving this award and being part of this prestigious ceremony. Please spread the word of this event and get these vets the attached “earmarked” application which they must fill out and mail back to the address which is on the application as soon as possible. Feel free to forward this email to any Legion member or Post, VFW member or Post, any veteran, any veterans’ organization…..we want everyone to attend. If you have never been at one of our ceremonies I can tell you they are performed with honor, dignity and respect due the veteran. These awards can also be presented “posthumously” to a widow or next of kin, so please be aware of that also.
To close please note the application must be sent in with a copy of the veterans DD-214 or discharge papers. I hope you’ll help us out in seeking applicants and spread the word of this event. The Adjutant General will be presenting the awards and there is a chance the Lt. Gov will also be present. Should you have any questions please let me know.
