Tony & Bill,
This is the email about the Basilone Bowl and Tuesday’s press conference. The link immediately below here has just been added; it is a link to a WCTC radio interview conducted with Captain Simpson, Joe Yuzuik, Sergeant Nasso and Scott Pender on April 18 during which they discussed details of the bowl. Please send it out to your lists of contacts. I hope to see as many commandants (or representatives) and some department officers as are able to make it to the press conference on Tuesday. Thank you.

To: New Jersey MCL Members, Commandants and Department Staff,
Yesterday (April 12), Joe Yuzuik (Bulldog Detachment) and Scott Pender (future Marine Corps Leaguer), and I (John Basilone Detachment) met with Major Ogden, Commanding Officer, and Sergeant Major Partin, of the USMC Recruiting Station Earle. At this meeting these Marines made a request and asked us to communicate it to all detachments in New Jersey and to our Department of New Jersey Staff. They need the assistance of as many New Jersey Marine Corps Leaguers as are able to provide assistance. The purpose of this email is to relay that request to you.
As you may be aware, the United States Marine Corps is holding the inaugural “Basilone Bowl” on June 28 at Bridgewater-Raritan High School football stadium (see the attached flyer). It is expected that this bowl will be held annually and will grow in size and prestige similar to the way the annual John Basilone Parade in Raritan has grown over the years. The purposes of this event are to honor our local Marine Corps Hero John Basilone, raise funds for Toys for Tots and to promote the United States Marine Corps. Major Ogden has requested Marine Corps League assistance in accomplishing these purposes. The event will be covered by local broadcast and print media.
Our input is expected to consist of participation in the Opening Ceremonies for the bowl. It is expected that we will stand in formation for a short time; there will not be strenuous activity involved. A few volunteers may be asked to help out by taking tickets, etc. Other Veteran Organizations will also likely participate. Let me be perfectly clear. Major Ogden is counting on a large Marine Corps Veteran turnout to help make this event a success. For most of us the Marine Corps has not asked anything of us in many years. This is an opportunity for us to assist our beloved Marine Corps simply by spreading the word and attending this event.
For right now what we are requesting is that Detachment Commandants, NJ Department Staff, or appointed representatives attend the press briefing on April 23 that is described in the attached flyer. At this briefing you will receive more information to pass on to your membership and we will show the media that the Marine Corps League is supporting this event. Press exposure for our league will also be a plus. Please RSVP your attendance at the press briefing as directed in the flyer.
