State of New Jersey Memorial Day Observance @ Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery

Commissioner Vincent Solomeno of the New Jersey Department of Veterans Affairs invites all Veterans to attend this year’s Memorial Observance—the first held under the banner of the newly established Department of Veterans Affairs.

The program will begin with a 200‑meter march featuring Veterans and Veterans Service Organizations. All detachments and color guards are welcome. An accessible reserved section will be available for those unable to march.

Veterans Health Fair @ Wildwood Convention Center

In collaboration with the VFW State Convention, we are bringing in health systems to provide health checks & screenings for all veterans and military spouses. Through the generosity of Braven Health and the clinical services of Cooper University Hospital & Deborah Heart & Lung Hospital, we will have cardiovascular checks, Stroke risk assessments, pulmonology testing, cancer screenings and more. Please get yourself checked out as we cannot afford to lose any more of our nation’s bravest!

Who May Compete

  • All Marines

  • Marine Corps League members

  • Invited guests

  • Members of the Cherry Ridge Range and their guests

Match Format

  • Type: Garand or any precision rifle

  • Distance: 200 yards

  • Position: Sitting or prone

  • Target: MR-63

Equipment Rules

  • Firearms: Garand or any rifle legal in the State of New Jersey

  • Sights: Iron sights only (no scopes permitted)

  • Ammunition: No incendiary, tracer, or armor-piercing rounds allowed

  • Rounds: 16 rounds for record, plus sighters

Course of Fire

  • 10 minutes for sighters (coaching allowed)

  • 8 minutes to fire 8 rounds (no coaching; no radio communication between line and pits; no butt rests)

  • 80 seconds to fire 8 rounds (no coaching)

Scoring & Requirements

  • All scoring conducted in the pits

  • Each round individually scored

  • Patches must match the area hit (no black patches for aiming points)

  • All shooters are required to perform butt duty. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.

  • Type: Precision Rifle

  • Distance: 300 yards

  • Target: Speedwell Press TQ-20 (14” x 20” with 2½” x 4” bull)

  • Rounds: 20 rounds for record, plus sighters

Equipment Rules

  • Firearms: Any rifle legal in the State of New Jersey (bench rest rifles not permitted)

  • Sights/Support: Any sights allowed. Bipods and non-commercial rests permitted.

  • Ammunition: No incendiary, tracer, or armor-piercing rounds allowed

Course of Fire

  • 5 minutes for sighters (coaching allowed)

  • 20 minutes to fire 20 rounds for record (no coaching allowed)

  • No radio communication between line and pits

  • No butt rests

Scoring

All scoring will be conducted in the pits, with each round individually scored:

  • Head (marked area): 10 points + 1 bonus point (11 total)

  • Chest (marked area): 10 points

  • Grey area: 9 points

  • Outside black area: 8 points

  • Outside black: Miss

Awards

Lewis System Awards:

  • Individual Marine: 1st & 2nd place in Class A, B & C

  • Individual Civilian: 1st & 2nd place in Class A, B & C

Important Requirement

All shooters are required to perform butt duty. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
