Members of the Department of New Jersey,

Now that both the convention and the holiday season are behind us, I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself to those of you I may not yet have had the pleasure of meeting. My name is Chris Soldano, and as of this past Department Convention, I am both honored and humbled to begin serving as your Department Commandant.

I am proud to serve alongside a dedicated team of officers: William Sebastian as Senior Vice Commandant, Brian Gillespie as Junior Vice Commandant, Joe Donahue as Judge Advocate and Tony Modzelewski as Paymaster. Please join me in congratulating them on their appointments. I know that together, we are committed to working tirelessly on your behalf and in the best interest of this Department.

I would also like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our now Junior Past Commandant, Mike Waluk. His leadership and unwavering commitment to this organization have set a high standard. I will strive every day to live up to the example he and our past Commandants have set.

To me, this organization is more than just a group—it’s an extension of my family. I ask each of you to reflect on why you joined. I once had a Commanding Officer who reminded us regularly that we are all part of one team. That message still resonates with me, and I believe it’s one we should carry forward. We must support one another, care for each other’s families, and work together across all levels to strengthen our Department and the broader veteran community.

It’s also essential that we continue to build meaningful partnerships with our fellow veterans’ organizations. By working together, we can make a real and lasting difference in the lives of veterans across New Jersey. I encourage you to visit our website at www.dnjmcl.org to explore the resources available. If you have events, initiatives, or information that could benefit fellow members, please share them. Our strength lies in our unity and active participation. The continued success and longevity of this organization depends on all of us doing our part—starting at the local level.

As the saying goes, our organization is only as strong as its members. We cannot afford to stand by and let others do all the work. Each of us has a role to play in shaping our future and preserving our way of life. As your officers, we are here to serve as tools and resources for you. Make use of us, engage with us, and let’s move forward—together.

Please feel free to contact me if you need, my information is below and on our website. I am looking forward to a great year and to working with all of you.

Semper Fidelis,

Christopher “Tool” Soldano
