I am pleased to announce that S-588, a bill that extends eligibility for veterans’ property tax deduction to residents of continuing Care retirement communities, passed out of the Community and Urban Affairs Committee on a unanimous vote today.  My thanks to those who supported the efforts put forth on behalf of the Organization of Residents Associations of NJ (ORANJ) and the veterans residing in the Borough of Tinton Falls.

The identical bill in the Assembly is A-1969, and as yet has not been posted for a committee vote in the Assembly Military and Veterans’ Affairs Committee, chaired by Assemblywoman Cleopatra G. Tucker.  I would ask each of you to send a letter to Assemblywoman Tucker requesting that she place A-1969 on the agenda for her next committee meeting.  Contact is also encouraged with each of the committee members urging them to vote favorably on this bill.  Here are the committee member contact information:

  • Assemblywoman Cleopatra G. Tucker, 400 Lyons Ave, Newark, NJ 07112, 973-926-4320
  • Assemblyman Matthew W. Milam, Vice-Chair, Member, 21 North Main Street, Cape May Court House, NJ 80210, 609-465-0700

  • Assemblyman Gilbert L. Wilson, Member, 130 Black Horse Pike, 1st Floor, Suite D-3, Audubon, NJ 08106, 856-847- 4800

It is essential that we have success in the Assembly so that the joint bill can be heard on the floor of the Senate before this session closes.

Please contact me if you have any questions.  Thank you.
